The story behind The Space Between

Zoe Eliyahu

Licensed Couples Counselor | CBT-Based Intimacy and Sex Counseling | Licensed Mediator (LL.B.)

My work sits at the intersection of couples counseling, sex counseling, communication, and contemplative practice. I am a licensed couples and sex counselor specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as a licensed mediator, group facilitator, yoga instructor, and attorney.

Before moving fully into counseling work, I spent seven years working in law and mediation. That experience gave me a deep understanding of conflict, communication, and the ways people protect themselves when they feel hurt, unseen, or overwhelmed. Over time, it became clear that my deepest passion was not only resolving disputes, but understanding the emotional and relational patterns underneath them - the subtle dynamics that shape connection, distance, and the space between people.

This led me more deeply into relationship counseling and intimacy work, where I now help couples understand the patterns that keep them stuck and develop practical tools for creating greater closeness, clarity, and safety in their relationship. My work is grounded in CBT, an evidence-based approach I value for its structure, clarity, and the lasting changes I have seen it create time and time again. I believe in giving couples tools that are not only insightful, but genuinely useful and applicable to everyday life, after you leave the session.

Alongside my clinical training, I have always been drawn to Eastern philosophy, mindfulness, and contemplative traditions as ways of understanding awareness and living with greater depth and intention. I see this as sitting naturally alongside CBT: one offers structured, clinically proven tools for change, while the other brings a wider perspective to the patterns shaping our lives and relationships. When people begin to understand those patterns, they create space for something new - more clarity, more safety, more warmth, and a stronger connection.
My goal is to create a space where partners feel both held and emotionally understood by each other, while also given real tools for lasting change.
This is the work I love.
